When there is a child registered with parents who no longer live together, I require a copy of custody and guardianship agreement/court order and any instructions from the Custodial Parent/Guardian in writing for the child’s file. In most cases it is in the child’s best interests for me to be communicating with both parents.

In the event parents do not share custody of the child(ren) then I must follow the instruction of the Custodial Parent regarding the other Parent calling or visiting the child(ren) while in my care (regardless of shared guardianship or not).

I cannot and will not allow the non-custodial parent to remove the child from my care unless pre-approved by the custodial parent or unless court ordered (such as court ordered access time).

It is highly recommended that both parents/guardians take the Parenting After Separation course.  For more information on the Parenting After Separation course, please read here:

Please advise the home child care as soon as possible if a child will not be attending daycare due to illness when he/she is scheduled to attend.

Parents agree that a child who is ill (e.g.. fever over 38 degrees, infection, diarrhea, communicable disease, or any other type of illness that may be passed on to others, with the exception of the common cold)  will be kept at home to protect the well-being of my family and other children in my care.  The parents further agree should a child become ill while in care that immediate arrangements will be made to remove the child from the home child care.  There will not be a refund for the day missed.

Children will not be allowed to return to home child care until they have been symptom free for at least 24 hours. In some cases, a note from a doctor may be necessary.

Please respect my illness policy.  If a child is not well enough to go outside to play or attend school, they are not well enough to attend home child care.

If I need to close daycare due to I or my child becoming sick, I will refund any fees lost due to closing the daycare.  Please note that if your child is sick and is unable to attend, I will not refund the fees lost.

If you are not able to pick up your child by the specified time. alternate arrangements must be made.

Please notify the home child care if an unauthorized person will be picking up your child.  Written permission must be received before we will release a child to anyone who is not authorized on the registration form.

A vast array of toys are provided for your child(ren) to play with.  Please do not bring any toys from home as this can cause jealousy and fighting among the children. Please note that Sunny Days is not responsible for lost or broken toys and items.

19.)  POTTY TRAINING
We will work in conjunction with parents during potty training.  If you have a method that has been working for you, please let us know and we will adopt it for your child.  We will work with you - but not for you.

Should you discontinue potty training at home, please let us know.  If a child shows no interest in potty training, we may choose to discontinue and try again at a later date. Please do not ask us to offer “treats” to the child for going  “potty”.

20.)  NAP TIME
We believe that children need adequate sleep throughout the night, and, sometimes, during the day, and we believe that children under 5 need more sleep than the rest of us.  Provided in the registration form will be a spot for you to write down your child(ren)'s general sleep schedule, so we can accommodate to their specific needs.

21.)  SUPPLIES
Sunny Days Daycare will provide for your child(ren) one nutritious snack, one nutritious meal, juice/drinks, craft supplies, toys, books, puzzles, outdoor equipment, and other such things.

  #  Two sets of adequate change of clothes appropriate for the season, including socks;
  #  Teething toys (if applicable), and;
  #  Pacifier (if applicable);

These items are to stay at the daycare, when your child(ren) needs them.  I will inform you when extra supplies are needed.  A comfort item may be brought with the child, but will stay in their cubbies/diaper bag until needed.

Note, we always gladly and greatly appreciate donations!

22.)  FOOD
Daily fees include craft supplies, one nutritious snack, drinks, and one nutritious meal.  However, we do ask that if your child is on a specific diet, e.g., soy milk only, or pedealyte drink only, that the parent supplies the specific food/drink for that child.  We ask parents that if the child will be attending daycare for a long period of time to keep in mind that we only provide one snack and one meal, and to pack a meal for their child, if needed.

Note, we always gladly and greatly appreciate donations!

23.)  HOUSE RULES
Sunny Days has a set of rules that everyone is expected to abide by.  Absolutely no yelling, screaming, hitting, shoving, grabbing, pinching, other children or adults.  Children are expected to walk instead of run, and there is absolutely no walking around the house with food or drink in their hand/mouth.  Adults and children are to be treated with the greatest respect and love as you want in return.

24.)  DISCIPLINE
I believe that discipline should always be in unconditional love, and firmness.  All children are to know the daycare house rules, and are expected to follow them.  However, once a child has broken a rule, a discipline that is appropriate for them will be administered.  I will work with your specific disciplining techniques for your child(ren).  However, there are techniques we shall not, under any circumstances, use.  They are including, but not limited to:

  #  Spanking/Physical discipline;
  #  Mental Punishment, e.g. calling the child names, saying they are stupid/saying they are bad;
  #  Confining, restraining, or caging, or;
  #  Depriving Child of necessities, e.g. going to the bathroom.

The typical Discipline techniques Sunny Days shall use, shall be the following:
  #  If a child disobeys, I will warn them that what they did was wrong, and if they do it again, they will have a 'time out'.
  #  If the child disobeys again, I will take the child by the hand, walk them over to the 'time out' spot, and sit them down.
  #  I will explain what they did, why it was wrong, and walk away from the 'time out' spot, but stay within eye shot of the child.  The child will sit in 'time out' for one minute per each year of their age.
  #  After the child has been in 'time out' for the consecutive time, I will come back and explain again what they did, why it was wrong, and ask them to say sorry, and ask them why they are sorry.
  #  After a successful 'time out' and successful amends are made, the child can resume normal activity.
  #  In the event that the child continues to disobey, has no regard for the rules, and/or is a threat to him/herself or others, I may call the Parent/Guardian to either have the Parent/Guardian talk to the child over the phone to help control their behaviour, or have the child removed from the daycare for the duration of the day.

25.)  EVACUATION POLICY
In the event of an emergency, it may be necessary to evacuate the daycare.  I will have my cell phone, a first aid kit, parent/guardian contact numbers and emergency contact numbers with me, and I will assist all the children through the front door and out onto the side walk.  If, for any reason, the front door is blocked, we will exit through the sliding glass door, cross the yard, and onto the side walk.  I will take an attendance immediately after ward, with the sign in sheet you are required to sign upon dropping off your child(ren).  After a successful attendance, I will, if necessary, take the children to our "safe zone," which is St. Joseph's General Hospital, which is a 10 minute walk/1 minute drive away.

26.)  MISSING CHILD POLICY
To ensure absolute safety of all children, no child is ever left unsupervised.  However, in the very rare chance that a child is not accounted for, I will do a total search of my home and the outside property.  If for some reason the child is still not accounted for, the RCMP will be immediately called, as well as the child's parent/guardian, or the emergency contact.

27.)  CHILD ABUSE POLICY
By law in British Columbia, under the Child, Family and Community Service Act, if I have reason to believe that a child is being abused, or if a child is at risk of being abused, I must call the Ministry of Child and Family Development.  Child Abuse is defined as the bad treatment of any child under the age of 19 by a parent, caretaker, someone living in their home or someone who works with or around children.
